Question by Alistair H: Should we quit feeding our dogs Dogswell Happy Hips treats? So my mom recently found out about chicken jerky treats made in china are making dogs sick and killing them. I remembered buying Dogswell Happy Hips treats for my dogs at one time, and I remembered they were chicken jerky. We have used up one package a few months ago, and now we have a new bag. We have only given about 2 of the treats in this bag to the dogs. Anyways, we checked the back of the bag, and sure enough, they were made in China. My dad is talking about returning them and notifying the store we bought them from, but I wanted to do some research for him since he can act like an ass and blow things out of proportion, and I didn't want him to feel like a complete jackass. I looked up the recalls and news articles on the treats, and so far I have only seen the treats mentioned in comment sections without anyone saying that they truly are bad for the dogs. However, my Australian Shepherd has shown just a few of the symptoms stated in the articles, such as throwing up and drinking water excessively, but the throwing up isn't happening constantly, like what happened to the dogs before death, and also he runs around and plays a lot making him probably somewhat dehydrated and thirsty. I still want to be careful though. Is it ALL chicken jerky treats made in china, or just specific brands? Should we return these treats? Best answer:

Not all chicken treats are made in China, dogswell is an extremely well known brand that does have more quality controls than others who use chicken from China. Having said that i still do not use them, you can find chicken treats made in the USA but they will not have added glucosamine. I would suggest just finding a supplement to add to the food, preferable one with glucosamine from a shellfish source, and ditching the dogswell. Maybe that particle company will never have a recall or an issue but I still wouldn't want to use a treat that is made in China when there are so many good USA made treats. Also the store might take the treats back but they also may not, it is not like your father was fooled into thinking the treats were made in the US when it says right on the bag that it is made in China- if he is mad at anyone he should be mad at himself.
